Fremont, CA – March 2018 – The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) in Dar Es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, has awarded TCI a follow-on contract to supply four (4) Mobile Spectrum Monitoring Systems (SMS). This award follows a 2016 contract for one (1) TCI Mobile SMS which established TCI as TCRA’s supplier for spectrum management, monitoring and licensing systems. TCI supplied its Model 737 SMS and Model 710 Automated Spectrum Management System (ASMS) to TCRA in 2016.
The new Mobile SMS will be deployed across Tanzania to support TCRA’s mission “To develop an effective and efficient communications regulatory framework … in the United Republic of Tanzania.” TCI will provide the TCRA new Model 737 Mobile SMS systems and services, including:
- VHF/UHF/SHF 20 MHz to 8.5 GHz mobile monitoring and direction-finding stations including digital signal analysis;
- Extended SHF frequency monitoring and direction-finding frequency range to 30 GHz
- Extended VLF/LF/MF/HF frequency monitoring and direction-finding frequency range to 9 kHz
- TDOA and hybrid AOA/TDOA geolocation equipped to interwork with TCRA’s existing TCI assets
- In-country training and warranty support.
TCI furthers its relationship with the TCRA through the award of this contract; continuing a 20-year commitment, presence and regional maintenance support in Sub-Saharan Africa. TCRA joins TCI’s other telecommunications regulator partners in East and Southern Africa in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda and Zambia.

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is a quasi-independent Government body responsible for regulating the Communications and Broadcasting sectors in Tanzania. It was established under the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Act No.12 of 2003 to regulate the electronic communications, and Postal services, and management of the national frequency spectrum in the United Republic of Tanzania.
